Women’s Philharmonic Orchestra of Bogota

Milestones of Living Memory: A Concert of Remembrance and Resistance

On Sunday, September 14, 2025, the Women’s Orchestra of the Bogotá Philharmonic returned to the stage of the León de Greiff Auditorium for a moving concert in collaboration with students and choirs from the National University of Colombia. Guest conductor Maca made a powerful return to lead the ensemble in this special event, which honored the victims of the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the forced disappearances in Medellín.

The program featured “Refugiada” and “Ya najmat al subh”, Palestinian works arranged for orchestra, guitar, and soloists, including a heartfelt duet by Athrodeel (Ahmad Dyab and Aseel Massoud). The centerpiece of the concert was “La Escombrera”, a newly commissioned orchestral and choral piece by Colombian composer Juan Forero, paying tribute to the victims of disappearance in Comuna 13. The evening closed with Gabriel Fauré’s “Pie Jesu”, performed by children’s choirs and orchestra, offering a moment of solemn beauty.

Through music, the concert created a space for collective memory, reflection, and resistance
